What’s it like to be an editor of a prison newspaper?

Phillip’s personal perspective essay describes the struggles he faced while teaching himself the art of journalistic writing in prison. His effort helped him become editor of The Nash News, North Carolina’s longest running prison periodical.

Of his experience, Phillip writes, “working for a prison newspaper alters the outlook of incarcerated individuals by instilling tenets of personal change: education, diligent work, and reflection through critical thinking.”
